Barton Winokur

Barton J. Winokur joined OEP in 2025 and is a Senior Advisor based in New York. Prior to joining OEP, Mr. Winokur was a corporate partner of Dechert LLP for more than fifty years. During his tenure at Dechert, Mr. Winokur served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the firm from 1996 to 2011. Throughout his career, Mr. Winokur devoted his practice to the representation of large public and private companies, global leveraged buyout funds, and venture capital firms in complex corporate transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, restructurings and securities matters. He served as chair of Dechert’s mergers and acquisitions and international law groups and was the resident partner of the London office from 1975 to 1979.

Mr. Winokur is a member and former chair of the Board of Trustees of Brandeis University, from which he received an honorary doctoral degree of humane letters. He also is a trustee emeritus and former Vice Chair and Chair of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of Cornell University. Mr. Winokur is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the National Board of the Posse Foundation. Mr. Winokur received his B.A. in Government from Cornell University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was an Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
